Are you happy with your life? If you can truthfully answer,
"Yes," then return this book for a full refund and our
congratulations! People who get up every morning and can say,
"What a wonderful day!" It's great to be alive. I can't wait
to get going and fulfill another piece of my destiny" are on
purpose and probably don't need this book.
But what if you're not so satisfied with your life? Are you nervous or
depressed? Are you lonely, fearful, or bored? Do you feel insecure,
resentful, or angry? Do you think you're unappreciated or unloved? Is
there an empty feeling, "a void" in your life? Do you
suffer with feelings of guilt or shame? Do you have a lot of pain, of
either the physical or emotional type? Are you a worrier, a
procrastinator? Do you have the idea that you'd be better off dead? Do
you live life without energy and enthusiasm? Are you constantly tired?
And finally, do you need immediate gratification and pleasure with
external things to feel ok?
Would it surprise you to find out that all of the feelings we just
talked about could be related to one problem, one disease? That's what
we have found in our clinical work over the last two decades. The good
news is we have also found a cure for these symptoms!
If you didn't have any of the symptoms we just discussed, do you think
you'd be happy, content, and satisfied with your life? Of course you
would! A happy, successful life.....that's what we want for you
because that's exactly what you want for yourself. You can have it! We
can absolutely guarantee you happiness, and it will come a lot faster
than you think.
The Cure of Addiction began under less than desirable circumstances in
the winter of 1990. It started with an unusual, and quite frankly,
revolutionary premise that all addictive behaviors result from a
singular cause and therefore can be treated equally effectively with a
singular treatment. In the subsequent years that have elapsed, we have
had no reason to revise this belief. Our clients are still being cured
of the disease process, and when they permanently continued the
program, the cure rate is still 100%.
There have been two significant developments since the original
version of the book. The first is a discussion of four important
metaphysical questions. The correct understanding of these questions
forms the basis for curing the disease. We have tried to show the
reader at least one way of answering these questions which has
successfully worked for a large number of clients. Psycho-Neuro-Immunology
is the branch of medicine that deals with the interrelationship
between thoughts, neurotransmitters, and the immune system. It has
been amazing to us how changing one's thoughts with respect to these
four questions changes in a positive way our mental and physical
health not only with respect to addictive behaviors but many other
medical conditions.
The second development represents an improvement in motivating the
reader to get started and to stay committed and involved. From the
beginning we had an answer that would work, but it worked only when
the person was sufficiently motivated. And quite frankly most people
who read the book never reached that plateau. However in the interim
we have developed an auxiliary motivational program which catapults
the client way past the threshold plateau.
As a doctor who originally practiced emergency medicine, for years
I took care of everything from gun shot wounds... to car wrecks... to
poisonings... to beatings... to heart attacks to... you get the idea.
Every night brought the same pain and suffering with only a different
variation in the players and the action.
Often I felt like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dyke.
While working in the ER, I could stem the flow, but as soon as I
stopped, here it would come again. Can you imagine how frustrating
this was?
I wanted to know if there was a common cause to all this waste of
human life and human potential, and if there was a common cause, could
there be a common treatment? After interviewing thousands of patients,
reading hundreds of books, and spending countless hours thinking about
the problem, do you know what I discovered?
I found out that the vast majority of human pain and suffering
results directly from bad side effects and complications of addictive
behaviors and from the results of our fears.
If you have a minute, let me explain how this process works.
There are many different types of addictive behaviors and they are
listed below. Grab a pen and check off any that may be a problem in
your life.
- Co-Dependency (controlling other people's behavior)
- Substance Abuse
- Marijuana
- Alcohol
- Hallucinogens
- Opiates
- Inhalants
- Depressants
- Stimulants
- Anabolic Steroids
- Gambling
- Kleptomania (Shoplifting)
- Smoking
- Sociopathism (Lack of Conscience)
- Over/Under Eating
- Sexual/Non-Sexual Abuse
- Workaholism
- Excitement
- Power/Greed
- Teenage Rebellion
- Sexual Compulsions
- Overspending
- Excessive Computer/TV Use
- Collectoholism
- Negative Thinking
These addictive behaviors all come from a single underlying disease
and they all have a real reason for a person to need them. An
individual needs these behaviors to try to improve a low self esteem.
The reason one has a low self esteem is that he or she doesn’t
understand the answers to the four important questions in life.
People with low self-esteem develop feelings and emotions like:
anxiety, depression, loneliness, unhappiness, discontentment,
emotional pain, emptiness, a void, unworthiness, a lack of love, lack
of acceptance, unsuccessfulness, sorrow, fear, insecurity, sadness,
boredom, resentment, self-pity, and/or a desire for immediate
gratification and pleasure.
Of course people want relief from these symptoms when they develop
and they start to treat themselves with what is most common and
available......addictive behaviors. Fact is, this self treatment does
work to increase one’s feelings of self worth, even if only
temporarily, as long as the behavior is being used. The trouble with
this solution to the problem is that every addictive behavior has side
effects and complications that are bad for you, and “you can’t
stay drunk or high forever.”
Death will ultimately interrupt the cycle, and often prematurely,
but in the meantime, the people suffer all kinds of losses like:
money, possessions, personal freedom, family relationships, physical
disabilities, and others. As a result of these losses, bad feelings
and emotions like: self-pity, doubt, insecurity, guilt, anger, shame,
fear, and others develop. These negative emotions decrease self-esteem
and reinforce the idea of lack of self worth. A cycle is now formed
which continues until death or some dramatic life event stops it.
When you look at the problem in this way, you understand why
working on the end result of the disease process— the addictive
behaviors, has been relatively unsuccessful. Individual self-will
alone is just not strong enough to break the cycle. Addiction is
stronger. If one is able to resist a particular behavior, and this can
be done for a period of time, the problem resurfaces later or the
addictive behavior is changed and expressed in another form. To be
permanently effective, treatment must be directed to the real cause of
the problem......not understanding the four questions. When the cause
of the problem is addressed, there no longer is a need, nor desire,
for the addictive behavior.
| “You haven’t missed a thing, in terms of naming the deadening
effects of addiction and also setting out a straightforward plan for
exactly what needs to be done about it. There is not a person in the
United States who couldn’t benefit from your insights.” Christiane
Northrup, M.D., Author of Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom |
This brings us back to the beginning. What are these all important
four questions? They are........Who am I? Where did I come from? What
am I doing here? Where am I going when I'm done?
Armed with the explanations to these four questions, you have the
potential for contentment, real happiness, and peace of mind for the
rest of your life.

physical problem. It is a God centered, Christian based treatment for
a problem that has never up until now, been adequately addressed. The
good news is that because of the underlying truths explained in the

understanding of the four questions. If you apply the question's
answers to your life as explained in the book and you don’t find
complete contentment, real happiness, and peace of mind for the rest
